Analysis of the Halabja Chemical Attack Crime: Iraqi Military Strategy and Political Motives Behind the Crime
Hoshman Ata Mahmod
This study explains the military strategy behind the chemical bombing of Halabja, going into the depths of the political and military decision of the Iraqi state to commit this crime. The reason for choosing this title is to dispel the doubts that have existed since the beginning of the crime and still exist about the perpetrator, whether Iran or Iraq committed the crime. The study, based on official Iraqi sources, seeks to reveal this fact. Using a historical analytical approach, the study aims to examine Iran's strategic objectives in the occupation of Halabja, the Iraqi regime's reaction to the attack and its broad geopolitical implications, using original sources, including Iraqi government military documents external. The main question of the study seeks to answer the tactics behind the use of chemical weapons in Halabja. He says the bombing was not just a tactical exercise, but a planned military action aimed at suppressing the Kurdish resistance, taking control of the area and punishing the residents of Halabja en masse.
